Rema Ghuloum: After Night at Five Car Garage, Los Angeles

October 24, 2020

Five Car Garage, in conjunction with Edward Cella Art + Architecture is delighted to present After Night, an exhibition of five paintings created this year by Rema Ghuloum.

In the artist's own words: “I haven’t found words for what I paint. I paint experiences, feelings, visions. They paint themselves. They are psychic spaces, psychological and visceral portals that convey the contrasts that are the human experience. They breathe. They are felt. They reflect emotions that tap into our collective experience. They are memories representing the past, present, and future. They reflect the feeling in your gut at 3 am, the sun at noon, and the fullest moon or that line of a song that repeats over and over like a mantra. They are everything and maybe nothing at all. They are paintings that cry and sing and laugh simultaneously."

Join Rema Ghuloum & Edward Cella In Conversation Live

Announcing a new series of live broadcasts from the studios of ECAA artists and community members in dialog highlighting ideas, art-making, and social engagement. The first features Rema Ghuloum and Edward Cella discussing her online exhibition, Ether Drawings. Created over a five-week period, they are the result of Ghuloum’s adaptation of her fluid yet intuitive creative process to create a single small format work daily. Like a form of meditation, the intimate, small-format drawings are made through layering of color and gesture. Marking an unprecedented moment, Ghuloum will discuss Ether Drawings in the context of recent projects and reflect on larger themes of memory, studio practices, and relevancy of art-making in the contemporary moment.
