Throughout the history of Alison's work, the bulb has taken on many narrative qualities, from a setting sun to the human heart. In the case of Vertical Shroud, the bulb takes on a figurative connotation, as a body standing in a field of lenses and mirrors, the idea of alternating perception, viewing ourselves versus how other people see us, the shadow side versus the light, the figure coming in and out of focus as light changes within the space.
